Members of The Leadership Code Tribunal Pay Courtesy Call On DCJ

Members of the Leadership Code Tribunal paid a courtesy on the Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, at the Court of Appeal.

The Leadership Code Tribunal is charged with the overall function of enforcement of the Leadership Code of Conduct particularly through adjudication of breaches of the Leadership Code of Conduct.

The DCJ asked members of the Tribunal to expeditiously handle disposal of cases in order to fight backlog. Noting that delayed trials frustrate the public.

He emphasized the need for independence while exercising their judicial mandate.

Additionally, the DCJ advised the members to consistently stand their ground and avoid outside interference in the cases they decide as this will increase public trust in their job. "It is important to build your image. If people have confidence in you, it's good for your future," he continued.

He also advised them to constantly study up on the cases they would be hearing, saying that doing so would assist them to know what questions to ask and facilitate decision-making.

Hon. Justice Buteera enlightened the members on Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms which he said had enormous advantages for the swift disposal of cases.

Dr. Roselyn Karugonjo-Segawa, the Leadership Code Tribunal Chairperson, thanked the DCJ for hosting the members. She stated that the visit was made to consult the DCJ on best way for the Tribunal to execute its duties.

She appreciated Judiciary's Electronic Court Case Management Information System and requested to have the Tribunal incorporated in it. 

The Tribunal's members in attendance included the Hon. Asuman Kiyingi (the Deputy Chairperson), Ms. Martha Kamakuna Nduru (the Assistant Legal Advisor), Ms. Jane Okelowange, Mr. Didas Bakunzi Mufasha, and Ms. Joyce Nalunga Birimumasso.

Members presented the DCJ with an Annual Report for the financial year 2021-2022, as well as the Tribunal's Strategic Plan for 2020–2025.
